Ages Heh?

Holy smokes it’s been ages hasn’t it? There always seems to be something holding me back from writing… I think it’s called life or something of the sort. I guess when it comes down to it there’s always room for an excuse not to write and just as many to write! At the end of the day I see an excuse as just that… an excuse whether it be good or bad.

‘Quick take a picture of me in the supermarket’

So wanna hear what they are? no… yes? well if you want to get through this post you’re just going to have to read through and maybe you’ll get caught up with what’s be going on :). Alright let’s start the list… I’ve been spending tonnes of time with this girl I love oh so dearly and here’s the kicker her last name is Bacon and she’s vegan… figured I’d get that out of the way, I’ve heard most of the jokes and she’s heard probably 20 times more of them then I have!

I’ve moved… twice but that sounds a little crazier than it might actually be haha. I originally moved up a floor in the current house I was in which wasn’t too bad, other than that spiral staircase that could have been used in the medieval time to stop troops from charging up the tower… let’s just say Zombie Apocalypse golden zone place to live! Downside, well it’s 4 floors up from the outside. The second place I move was a little tougher… we had to take everything down that zombie proofed staircase down three more flights of stairs through the snow and into the moving truck. After that it wasn’t too bad getting everything into our new place other than a semi slippery slope down the side of the house that in time was turning into an ice slide. It took 3 good days to fully get out of the old place but we did it!

Packed up for the final move!

I have a few other endeavours I’ve been working on but due to some semi conflict of interest I’m going to keep that on the downlow until next blog ;)… guess that means you’ll have to subscribe to find out what it is ‘muahaha’ (my attempt at an evil laugh).

Other than that I guess my girlfriend and I are trying to watch all of the ‘Once Upon a Time’ episodes. Quite an interesting twist on the traditional stories I was used to as a child… cool side note we have the book with the Brothers Grimm short stories that tell their own side of the story as well!

Coexistence

A lot has happened in the recent month and a bit, I’ve done a lot of firsts which I plan to continue pursuing!

Blog-1Blog-1-2

The summer is finally here I attended a Solstice party with some friends around a fire, tried out paddleboarding which was an absolute blast and would suggest it to anyone. There has been many beach visits, backyard fires and it’s only the beginning of the summer <3.

Blog-3

I had the opportunity to use my Photoshop and photography skills lately which was rather exciting, in the sense that I was compensated for my efforts :). I did two posters for a friend that works at a youth centre and some photography for my buddy that’s an arborist. It’s nice to be able to use the talents you’ve “trained” in or made efforts to really learn; it’s a little bummy sometimes having to work a job that is really only a mean to make an end. I do really enjoy landscaping don’t get me wrong, I get to be outside in the nature take care of tree’s and properties and enjoy the sun and mountains, but there’s a point where your efforts deserve a little more recognition.

Dayton logo

I had a great conversation with my friend Sara and Dayton the other night about women equality in the workforce and how there is still a gap but that it’s closing. I made a point that I felt equality was evening out but in the sense that it’s my generation that’s evening it out… unfortunately we do not make up the majority of the work for at this point only having an age range from 18-28 for example vs. 28-60 . Maybe I’ve become complacent to the idea, but in all honesty I try to see it as there shouldn’t be a difference in the first place; we’re all human beings, we all breathe air and have thoughts and a conscience. By not having equal rights or working ability we are only stunting ourselves as a species… why cut our brain power 30/70 or what ever numbers you want to pull… it just doesn’t make sense. Pretty much what I’m getting at is don’t ever look at someone’s gender… you know what the only thing we should be doing is listening to everyone “Blindly” (in the sense it doesn’t matter what they look, hear or sound like) hearing what they have to say and analyse it all; it doesn’t matter if you’re female, male, gay, straight, black or blue, Buddhist or Muslim we all have a place on this planet and we should all be respected equally… We are all one and interconnected.

Brent and Ryan-1

Festival season is upon us and I’m counting down the days until I go on my festival journey… Actually I’m not counting the days I’m just going with the flow to hold down the over excitement. I have to say festival’s are what make my year… they are what reminds me that we are an amazing group of creatures on this planet and how we can really join together as one and just share so much love and fantastic company from strangers and friends alike. I can de-stress and flow free at festivals and enjoy nothing but great music, people, and just all around atmosphere. I’ve decided I will be hitchhiking this year to my festivals as to save money on gas, it should be a wonderful experience… will be sure to let you know how it went.

“Love yourself because that’s who you spend all your time with <3″

It’s About Love!

It’s been a couple of weeks since I’ve blogged… to be honest it’s just laziness or the fact I hadn’t had any motivation to post because it is pretty exhausting. Surprisingly it does take a lot out of you to write; I take anywhere between and hour or two to post a basic blog let alone one with full pictures and details. So I thank you for keeping your interest in reading my posts!

Feb 22 2014 blog-1

I want to start this blog by discussing part of the book I’m reading which I’ve also let fall to the side a bit. The Valkyries has a lot of good material but there’s a lot in the book that seems almost useless… I guess it may have something to do with having such high expectations from reading The Alchemist. At one point the author Paulo Coelho writes about Love doesn’t create Peace and that we always destroy that in-which we love. I can kind of agree we tend to destroy the things we love to an extent, but the fact that he states it doesn’t bring peace… I dunno about that.

Feb 22 2014 blog-2

Can’t wait for this to turn into a beautiful garden!

I feel like a lot of life has to do with Love… and I’ve discovered that more than ever since living out West; love is what drives most things from what you want to do in the future to who you want to spend your life with. If you can share love for something… for everything you are on a path to peace. I’ve found more peace of mind, of body, peace of life in the past year more than I ever have. Haiti was the start of who I was to become and continue to be. Once I started meeting similar minded people from Edmonton to Vernon to around the world! My general my outlook on life is a lot more joyous. I get deemed a Hippy from time to time just because a lot of people find me “chill” or super relaxed and caring, and I don’t mind that, I embrace it. We lack a lot of love in this world and it’s been replaced with money and things but if you can just find love in everything from day-to-day you’ll find you feel much better.

I don’t know the answers to life but I sure feel like I’m taking a step in the right direction… and you can too! When you wake up in the morning take some time to lay in bed and enjoy the sounds around you, think about the sun even if it’s behind the clouds. Once you’re up and going take a look in the mirror, tell yourself how beautiful and sexy you are even if you don’t believe it… do it until you do! Because you are only as beautiful as you let yourself be, your brilliance shines from within and will show on the outside. When you love yourself you’re ready to face the world. Maybe you think that you’re not good enough for someone because you’ve never dated or have issues dating… do you love yourself? Would you want someone who’s conflicted with themselves to be your partner; I say no because without self-love you can’t love someone else.

Feb 22 2014 blog-5

Most days I’ll put on music in the morning whether it’s a vinyl record of the Beatles to some EDM on my computer or phone; it doesn’t matter what it is as long as you can appreciate that someone put love into their music and made it ring in your ears. Heck it could be Country or it could be Heavy Metal… what jives with you?

IMG_20140220_123303

New tunes!

Ever get mad at someone for making a mistake on your order or anything even? Ever heard of the word sonder? It’s a word I suggest most people to acquaint themselves with. To sonder is to really stop and think about how everyone around you has complex emotions as you do… maybe their dog is sick or they broke up with their girlfriend or even had the best night of their life and are in Lala-Land. Remember they are complex beings of life just like you.

Feb 22 2014 blog-6

I was going to stop my tangent on love but on my idea board Dr. Who came up and his love for everything living… it may be a Sci-fi show but when it comes down to it the Dr. doesn’t want to hurt anyone and is against all discrimination from Humans to Aliens to Cyborgs, you are a being of the world… of the UNIVERSE! Everyone is something and should always be treated equally. Oh and I found the Dr.’s TARDIS in my town!

IMG_20140216_185745 IMG_20140216_185803

That’s my little tangent on Love there’s a lot more I’d Love to share but I’ll save it for another day.

Joys of the winter! About 2 weeks ago my pipes froze! I was without water for almost 4 days… it’s amazing how crucial water is. I knew from Haiti how important it was but it was a hell of a reminder. I couldn’t clean my dishes, wash my clothes and to cook… it’s actually really hard to cook without water. Luckily before I was at my wit’s end the pipes opened up and I went on a major clean spree.

What Is Prayer? – Guest Post

What Is Prayer?

All prayer – no matter what the religion – has a certain power, but some techniques are more powerful than others. The easy-to-learn technique of dynamic prayer devised and taught by Dr. George King is based on yogic principles, including the chakras, visualization and the correct use of spiritual energy, which make it highly effective.

In his commentary on the second of The Nine FreedomsDr. King explains prayer as follows:

Throughout the centuries healings, which some people have described as miracles, have been brought about through the correct use of prayer.

Now, what is prayer? Prayer is a way to transmit energy from point A – the prayer [i.e. the person praying], to point B – the person who needs that prayer. The prayer energy is carried safely to its destination by the power of Love. The spiritual energy which is sent from the prayer [i.e. the person praying] to the recipient was referred to by the ancient yogis as, “prana” or “the universal life force”. But the carrier of that energy is Love…

The explanation below is adapted for this website from the book Prayer Energy:

Prayer is a way of channelling and transmitting energy. It can bring joy, inspiration, healing, peace, exhilaration – and even bliss.

Dynamic prayer is…

  •  not a dull duty or a meaningless chore, but a vibrant, living power.
  •  not the deluded hope of someone crying out in desperation, but the practical solution to many problems.
  •  not an act of fear or false piety, but one of courage and true love.

If prayer were understood and practiced every day by more people, not only would those people’s lives change, but the whole world would change. Why? Because prayer works. And once the nature of prayer becomes clear and we begin to understand how it works, the confusion and doubt that all too often haunt the would-be prayerful believer are gone.

The energy known as prana – universal life force

Everything in creation is manifested through energy. In Indian philosophy this energy is known as prana. In China, it is referred to as qi (or ch’i), in Japan as ki. It is akin to the Greek concept of pneuma and the Melanesian mana. The name is not important, though. What is important is what it is and what it does. It can be aptly described as the “universal life force” because that is exactly what it is – the force of life, which exists throughout the universe. It is life itself. And even more remarkable than this, we can all invoke and use this energy simply by the power of thought.

When we want something the desire makes us magnets for energy. We use our minds, consciously or unconsciously, to direct this to bring about a certain result. This is the power of creative visualisation, or intention, but it is not real prayer.

Real prayer is not a device for trying to get whatever we want. It is an expression of love. To pray properly we must unchain the shackles of selfishness from our hearts and condition the energy we invoke with the power oflove. Think of love as the vehicle in which the energy travels to its destination. As the great yogi Swami Vivekananda put it: “The moment you have succeeded in manufacturing love out of prana, you are free.”

The efficacy of prayer

The efficacy of prayer is not dependent on the whim or favoritism of a mythical overlord, whom some mistake for the great Divine Source. On the contrary, it is exact in the way that a science is exact. In fact, it is a science – albeit one of which few scientists seem to have much understanding. It is a scientific formula for sending energy, conditioned by love, from the person praying to the focal point of the prayer. How well a prayer works basically depends on:

  • How much energy we invoke and send out.
  • How well this energy is conditioned by love.
  • The karma of the situation or person you are praying for.

Dispelling doubts about prayer

Viewed in this light there is no need to be haunted by the specter of doubt when our prayers don’t seem to be answered. Prayer is a natural power – not a superstition. Comments such as, “I prayed for world peace for five minutes last night and yet war is still going on, therefore God does not exist” are absurdly superficial. To bring about world peace would require a colossal amount of spiritual energy. In fact, miraculous though it sounds, with the right quantity and quality of spiritual energy the world could be utterly transformed. Dr. King taught that the only real energy crisis on Earth is the spiritual energy crisis, and that until this is put right humankind will always suffer from shortages of more basic forms of energy. Prayer is undoubtedly one of the best ways to help solve this crisis.

Change your life through prayer

It matters little what you call the Divine Source, be it God, Brahma, Allah, Jehovah, Great White Spirit, The Way, Heaven, or anything else. The love in your heart is infinitely more important that the creed in your mind. Prayer is not for the chosen few; it is for everyone. It is the birthright of people of all faiths – and even of none – to experience the benefits that dynamic prayer can bring.

We can all help to improve the world and our own lives, this very moment, by being a channel for the limitless energy of love, whether this be manifested in thought, word, deed – or prayer.

And you won’t know how good this really is until you try it!

Dynamic prayer is a wonderful expression, it is a song of the soul and the soul wants to sing, it wants to express light all around itself, it wants to go forward and help and raise others who need the transmuting power output of a joyous soul. You must allow your inner soul to do this; you must allow this beautiful manifestation to take place, this great surge of energy to fill your mind and aura to such an extent that the bread you cast upon the waters is indeed plentiful and beneficial to all. And the more effort you expend in this respect, the more sure the result must be. This is the law. If you want an impossible thing it is this: you cannot send out dynamic prayers for mankind without having certain results – it is impossible, it cannot be done, the results must come, sooner or later they must come! God, if I could only get this mighty Truth over to the lazy people on this planet, we would have three and a half billion prayers, this very morning and before this afternoon, the world would be changed completely!

So, be not deluded by that allegedly logical part of yourself, your conscious mind – but do let your soul sing. It can be taken over by the higher part of you and the change will be such as to amaze you; and once you have mentally tasted this you will not want to slip back again. Be all of you thus warned: I have spoken in the light of considerable experience. Heed it, for your sakes, and for the world’s.

Dr. George King

Chasing the Sun n’ Moon

where to even begin… there has been so much going on lately and I wish I had been able to write about it and share the things I’ve been experiencing as they’ve come. I’m going to give you a quick filler on what has happened in the past few weeks.

I had moved to Edmonton and started to work right away eventually I moved onto another job which was a lot of fun and great learning. I began working at Donorworx/ World Vision which was a super tough job that’s for sure; no one goes to the mall to sponsor a child but we still have to pull them in and excite them and let people know how much help is actually needed in the world… at the very least just educate :).

Edmonton was a great start for me in a means of independence and integrating back into “first world” since Haiti. I’ve been on a continuing path of learning and it’s amazing to say the least. Thanks to my friend Candace I was able to meet some new people pretty much the same day I arrived in town. I’m not one to normally go out but I know it’s a crucial part in discovering new things and finding new adventures. That night I ended up meeting some great people who I’ve since become pretty close with. I was able to meet some great people from Wold Vision and develop some great friends there as well.

My longboarding continues to get better every time I hit the pavement (with the board not my body). One of the best times of the last month was attending Motion Notion just outside of Golden BC, this would also be my first time in BC. The drive to MoNo was about a five-hour drive but the scenery on the way made it feel substantially less… it helped to have great company too! Once we arrived to MoNo we had to find a place to set up, we changed our minds about 3 times and had to run to the entrance at the top of the hill to change the sign we had written for our other friends coming to camp with us.

1002574_602292379792855_343309913_n

The spot we found ended up being perfect with the Mountains on one side and nothing but huge green tree’s on the other. At night our site was just the perfect distance that all the music from the stages became ambient music and peaceful to help you relax/sleep.

1387_10151506343460988_21370620_n

Most people know I’m all about new experiences and that I usually feel the need to try something to say I’ve done it and also not regret not doing it; there was a nice little river that was glacier fed… I knew it was going to be cold but when I jumped it in was COLD! The jump was totally worth it despite feeling like there was ice-cubes around me, and I had a hard time getting out because of the slippery clay… Totally worth the experience.

1048513_600485776640182_541511203_o

Later in the night we finally got all our glow sticks going, and off most of us went to enjoy the festivities. I dilly dawdled a bit trying to put just the right gear together. There were some amazing things going on at night from the hoopers to the Fire shows all the way to the fantastic music playing.

Going to a small festival like MoNo was super neat and I was able to get a new perspective on things compared to Electric Forest which usually brings in around 30,000 people compared to MoNo’s 4-6 thousand. I want to thank all my friends from MoNo and the new people I met, I know our friendships will be that much stronger because of that weekend, you’re all great people! Aaron, Kandi, Lance, Leanne, Heather, Kalan, Arianna… everyone. ^_^

1078164_10151729614913864_1585804658_n

Since I started attending festivals a few years ago they have really been a big part of my life and meeting amazing people and just learning how to go back to living free even if it’s just for a weekend.

156319_10151506334505988_1336817582_n1000218_10151506343075988_555043569_n481104_10151506294170988_246544486_n

I‘ve began reading a book, and I don’t normally read books but just felt I needed one and I happened to stumble across an amazing book called The Alchemist. I’ve had a few friends super excited about me reading this book, at first I really didn’t get it… now I do. This book has been so fitting into my life especially recently. I’ve been moving in the direction life is pushing me <3.

Most recently I have moved out to Vernon, BC which was a nice 8 hour drive from Edmonton… it was such a nice drive though, minus the suburbia part of Calgary, there’s just way to many houses that look the same and have taken up so much of the natural it’s a little sad, but other than that the mountains are sensational!

IMG_0925 IMG_0901

Because my awesome new friends threw my an amazing going away party I didn’t get to leave for Vernon until the afternoon the next day… that’s okay because I ended up staying with Arianna for the night at the Ranch/ Farm she works at in Coldstream just outside of Vernon. Waking up and getting to meet the horses and walk with them was so exciting… with plenty more to be had!

425212_10151617060058864_342281865_n

My new place in Vernon is absolutely unreal, the atmosphere is pretty much perfect for me and my continued evolution of character. The place where I’m staying is a retired hostel converted into renting suites. My suite is actually detached from the house above a storage garage, it’s super cozy.

1186157_10153150889585022_1155187316_n

I’ve been integrating into the mini community here at the Hostel really well… the people are just great. Yesterday we went to the beach just because everyone had the day off, it was really nice to get away and not think about much. I’ve been doing a decent amount of longboarding here in Vernon but it’s a little tough going down some hills because they are pretty steep and I have yet to learn hard breaking.

I want to thank everyone for their patients and my blog writing or lack there of, I actually plan on writing a lot more often now that I have a proper computer set up… which means my book should be done soonish I’m aiming towards the New Year.

Vernon and the Hostel as I’ve decided to start calling it is going to a great opening for me to really find my centre, get back to my meditation, seeking God, and many other enlightening opportunities.

1013277_10151590930876725_1308193050_n

I’ve decided to start making bracelets and maybe expanding into wire wrapping for a hobby other than writing so if anyone have any suggestions for me to practice feel free to let me know!

1st Leaking Into 3rd

1st leaking into 3rd

Things are going pretty well here at Kè Kontan; the days are starting to come to a close faster and faster as my trip is nearing its end.

IMG_0158 (800x533)

Most recently I’ve had some first world problems starting to leak into the 3rd world I’m in. It’s nothing of major concern for anyone but me really. I have to get my emissions test (Car) done for when I come home and with the work that’s been done on my car it may not pass… especially because of the newly implemented “Drive Clean” Program Ontario has set up.  I had saved some money for when I get home just so I can take a week or 2 off to acclimatize back to the 1st world. It looks like I’ll be spending most of my savings just getting my car in condition to pass the test; or fitted with the right parts rather. My car is newer and there’s nothing wrong with it, but the new testing is failing a lot of cars. The new margins for testing are 1.5 margin error compared to the approx. 4.5 it was before; that’s a rather substantial gap. I don’t want to bore people with car talk just wanted to throw my frustrations down for other people to hear :). A lot of it has to do with getting things working and having to try and do it over the internet and with my mom, who by the way is handling it very well. Her not knowing cars makes it somewhat of a challenge.

world-map

I attempted to get on the internet to start writing this next blog but of course something is wrong… nothing new here. I’m writing in Word trying to solve the issue at the same time. Fingers crossed it works… I suppose if you are reading this I got it working… if not it’s creepy you’re able to read this *Glares into the sky*.

There was some snafu’s that happened with getting some kids into school (kids not in the orphanage) but it seems we got most of them ironed out. Unfortunately things are still shaky and trying to get sorted for one child who was blamed for something he didn’t do, so we may not be able to place him into school as of yet, keep him and I guess all of us here in your prayers thanks! Oh the English classes have resumed since the Holidays and I see new faces here and there as well… I see a lot of potential and it’s a lot of fun. There are a few kids not really getting the grips of it though… it’s like I’m speaking Chinese… or English haha.

IMG_0165 (800x533)

Lately there have been some new faces around with the kids from the outside… Starting to call it that as I don’t get to leave the walls of the orphanage/compound since Emily’s been gone, not very often anyway. There’s been a lot more screaming and surprisingly less scrapes… less Dr. Justin.  It’s a bit more of a chore keeping an eye on everyone and sorting things out but I’m managing.

As my trip draws near to the end, I anticipate once Julia arrives on the 22nd the time will FLY. I’m excited! Despite being back home and working the grind as usual. I’ll be back with people I’ve missed and sharing my silliness and sarcasm with them.

Guess what I fixed the internet… oh I love how good some things work out sometimes, especially in Haiti.

Just wanted to throw in a quick blog for everyone… because I’m sure some of you just sit at home waiting for me to post right….?

Sharing the Info

So today I went out to lunch with my mother to let her know my plans of going to Haiti. Like I expected and what I would expect from every parent, is that she was not to impressed with the quick drop of news. Keep in mind I’m the youngest child of three and I’m “the baby” and Haiti is obviously not the safest country… First country to ever successfully perform a “Coupe D’etat”.

It is important for me to have my mum on board for this but regardless of her decision I’m going but I have no doubt she will support me and help me out… and what I’m assuming brag about what her son is doing once I’m out there.

My mum actually looked at some of the posters I’ve made up and even made some suggestions to change out and naturally is concerned with other information regarding going there and staying there. If any one is curious let me post up a list that Emily have posted for me.
